Emily Nowels, MA, LCMHC
I work frequently with people who have experienced trauma; are feeling stuck; suffer from anxiety, depression, negative body-image or perfectionism; or are navigating grief & other major changes. This work looks different for everyone, but I aim to create a space that feels as non-intimidating & non-judgmental as possible. My style is a little informal, authentic, and direct. I love helping people explore what makes them unique, while also discovering what helps them feel connected to the world. I find therapy reflects life. So some days we're processing current stressors & coming up with practical solutions to manage symptoms.
But other days we’re figuring out where the root of these issues lie, so we can stop the cycle from repeating itself. We’re diving into the stories of your life. What are your core beliefs? Through what lens do you view yourself, others, & the world? Are these ideas you chose or inherited? And are they still working for you?
I have found that sometimes when doing this kind of deep reflection or when healing old wounds, going beyond traditional talk-therapy can be very helpful. So if my clients are up for it, this is when I like to lean into EMDR, somatic, & more mindfulness-based interventions. If you have questions or think we might be a good fit, reach out for a consultation.
